Name: Ian 'Desmond Douglas' Taylor
Age: 28
Profile: After
last year's performance of a solid second to Catto's
Chelsea-esque domination, Taylor is hoping – nah praying – for a Superstars first; a double whammy, summer & winter titles to be held at one time. However if he gets near this achievement he is anticipating sabotage from the likes of the Weasel.
Joker round: Table Tennis
Chances: Predicting a third place finish.
Official odds: 7/2 joint fav
Name: John 'The Cat' Catterfeld
Age: 27
Profile: This Superstars veteran - competing in his sixth Superstars - is unaccustomed to carrying the tag of favourite. Is however in prime physical shape and could be the one to stop the Taylor double.
Joker round: Strawpedo
Chances: Can only hope to perform half as well as last year, but based on his 2005 results that could still be enough to win!
Official odds: 7/2 joint fav
Name: Ronan 'Pretty Boy' O'Mahony
Age: 28
Profile: Quick, fast, strong, athletic. None of these qualities mean Jack when it
comes to this celebration of all things tardy and unhealthy. Can't see his strengths meaning anything higher than a third place, especially as the Caterfeld Committee gets to choose all the events.
Joker round: Table Football
Chances: Looking for a podium place
Official odds: 6/1
Name: Nick 'The Daddy' Clifford
Age: 28
Profile: Nick sees this year's Winter Superstars as his best chance yet for a medal. Moral is high after being crowned "Most Improved" in the Summer event and for being involved in the controversial darts victory on "
Judgement Day". Consistency and concentration will, as always, be key – an area where Nick's attention deficit disorder have proved costly in the past. The trump card this year will be The Daddy's enforced Alcohol embargo; the first round will therefore be on him at 10.00am!
Joker round: Bowling
Chances: Should be fighting Pretty Boy for third place
Official odds: 8/1
Name: Ross 'The Boy' Lane
Age: 27
Profile: Being a Birmingham City fan, Ross is well used to finishing mid-table. In three Superstars attempts The Boy has risen no higher than fourth and no lower than seventh. He did however flirt with last place in his only other Winter appearance, so is expected to be nearer the bottom than the top this time around.
Joker round: Sega Rally
Chances: Is taking the competition more seriously this year (i.e. not drinking throughout the day), so should still be in with a shout towards the end of the day.
Official odds: 9/1
Name: Ming 'The Merciless' Murphy
Age: 31
Profile: Currently in the middle of a course of Rohypnol, the Bald One is merely hoping to be conscious on Superstars Saturday, let alone looking to win. He has however benefited from a crash-course in Chinese Poker and a Snooker practice the week before the main event, elevating him from potential wooden spoonist to a good outside bet.
Joker round: Snooker
Chances: Outsider, but not to be underestimated
Official odds: 9/1
Name: Rob 'The Weasel' White
Age: 28
Profile: After finishing top 10 in the
Sunday Times One Minute Pitch competition, there is no stopping this one-man snowball. Rob 'It'll Be Alright On The Night' White, is positive he will take his first Superstars title through a mix of cheating, tomfoolery and Derryn Brown like cunning – with a bit of Paul Daniels magic and George Best-like drinking chucked in for good measure.
Joker round: Snooker
Chances: Better than last year.
Official odds: 12/1
Name: Theo 'Wrong Gear' O'Mahony
Age: 23
Profile: A Winter Superstars debutante, could the indoor disciplines be Theo's chance to shine? The summer wooden spoon sits proudly on his shelf, and the bookies think he'll soon have a pair.
Joker round: TBC
Chances: Zip. Zilch. None. Nowt.
Official odds: 15/1
